Episode 090: The Great Dust-up of 1947

https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-64up6-b94f82

There’s not much in the way of rough hockey these days. Lucky for us we have a time machine. This week we travel back in time to 1947 to New York City.  We munch on some pop corn, and watch the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers beat the ever-loving crap out of each other.  The rumble is one of the greatest fights in hockey history, and by the time it’s over, the two teams could have played an extra period of hockey.

Episode 022: Ned and the Reds

https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-yvgem-b96a2a

Alexander Mogilny was one hell of a high-profile player; especially when he defected from behind the Iron Curtain. However, Mogilny wasn’t the first to do what he did. This is the story about the guy who did it first, way back in 1974. Vaclav Nedomansky fled after becoming a hero to the people of Czechoslovakia following the ’74 World Championships.

Episode 024: The Death of Alcide Laurin

https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-baaec-8b2524

Depending on whom you ask about the death of Joseph “Alcide” Laurin, you’ll get a different answer. Some say his death was purely an accident. Others say he was murdered. While it’s impossible for us to get the answer so long after his passing, we can look at the facts we do have, and make up our own mind. This episode presents the circumstances surrounding his death, and the trial of culprit.

Episode 089: The Doraty Game

https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-sxb65-b7d6ea

A game begins on Monday, April 3, 1933.  A game ends on Tuesday, April 4, 1933.  Would you believe me if I told you those two dates actually represent the same game?  It’s true.  The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins were locked in a 2-2 series tie in a best-of-five games series to decide which team would advance to the Stanley Cup Final.  They both easily anticipated an incredibly climactic game, but what they most certainly didn’t anticipate was how long it would take to end.  Join me in reliving the story of the second-longest game in NHL playoff history.
